Dr. Christos Papadelis focused on cerebral palsy and pediatric epilepsy. He stressed the importance of sensorimotor cortex in motor and sensor deficits of cerebral palsy. Based on their study, cerebral palsy has been characterized by a shift of brain activity to the pre-central gyrus, suppressed gamma activation, abnormal somatopic brain organization in the primary somatosensory cortex, decreased number of fibers in thalamus and thalamic white matter fibers with higher diffusion (that is greater damage). Therefore, Dr. Papadelis concluded that there is an abnormal mechanism underlying the cerebral palsy as a result of diminished thalamocortical projections. Furthemore, this mechanism causes diffuses abnormalities in the intergyral cortico-cortical connections involving local to distant cortical regions. Regarding the pediatric epilepsy, he highlighted that the presence of high frequency oscillations can be used to define the epileptic episode's onset.
